ONTARIO >> A letter determining that complaints of corruption were unfounded was presented at the City Council meeting Tuesday night.

The letter of complaint was submitted by Councilman Paul Vincent Avila June 6 alleging there was corruption by Ontario City Council members with respect to a contract between the city and the waste management company Burrtec, and also alleging assault and battery by Councilman Alan Wapner.

“Both allegations were investigated by our office and determined to be unfounded,” reads the letter from the District Attorney’s Office.

According to the letter, the DA had been trying to reach Avila for an interview since July 22 via phone, voice, messages, emails and certified letters. Avila had responded by voice mail on July 23 and by letters postmarked Aug. 7 and 19, with each asking to meet 4.5 to 6.5 weeks in the future.

“While it is generally our preference to interview a complainant, in this case we are now satisfied our investigation of the facts is complete and that our conclusion that the allegations are unfounded is valid,” the letter concludes.

During the meeting, Avila said he is waiting for the state and federal government to respond to the complaint.
