Candidate forums for the City Council and mayoral election will be held next week in a race that pits a long-time mayor against a former U.S. congressman.

Organized by the Fontana Chamber of Commerce, the forums begin with City Council candidates at 6 p.m. Oct. 2, followed by a mayoral candidates at 7:30 p.m., both at City Council Chambers, 8353 Sierra Ave. in Fontana. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with seating available at 7 p.m. for the mayoral forum.

Former U.S. Congressman Joe Baca and Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren have confirmed their attendance at the forum, according to organizer and chamber executive director Jerry Edgett. The two square off for the city’s top seat in what is expected to be a challenging race. Candidate Luis Vaquera is also expected to attend.

Two council incumbents fighting to retain their seats are Michael Tahan and John B. Roberts. They will be challenged by Tressy Capps, Adrian Felix Gonzalez, Marco Perez and Hector Villanueva.
