Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, owner of Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain, announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Big Bear Mountain Resorts in Big Bear Lake, California. Big Bear Mountain Resorts includes both Bear Mountain, pictured here, and Snow Summit, the largest and most popular of southern California’s ski and snowboard resorts that host nearly 800,000 winter visits annually. BIG BEAR LAKE >> In what will make it part of one of the nation’s largest ski companies with more than 2 million visitors per year, Bear Mountain and Snow Summit have been bought by Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, the northern California-based company announced Wednesday.
“People say, ‘with the weather, why do this now?’” said Bob Roberts, executive director of the California Ski Industry Association in San Francisco. “Skiing is always going to be a part of it, but there are very active talks with the Forest Service … to allow more to do in the summer months on summer lands.”
The first change will be the addition of a season pass that will provide access to the four parks now controlled by the company — Bear Mountain, Snow Summit, Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain — for $689 for adults. That’s a discounted rate available at www.snowsummit.com or www.Cali4niaPass.com, said Rusty Gregory, chairman and CEO of Mammoth Mountain.
“This is all about providing the best value we can to California skiers and snowboarders,” Gregory said. “The Cali4nia Pass cuts through the clutter. It is far and away the best product for California skiers and riders as it allows you to ski when you want and where you want.”
That’s good news for local skiers and others, said Dick Kun, the longtime CEO of Big Bear Mountain Resorts.
