An incumbent District Attorney, whose personal conduct is now the focus of attention, withdraws from a debate with his challenger.

What a shock! We’ll not really.

Riverside County District Attorney Paul Zellerbach has officially withdrawn from a debate with subordinate Deputy District Attorney Mike Hestrin.

Zellerbach’s move comes on the heels of having to try and explain his actions involving accusations of him personally removing Hestrin’s campaign signs.

The debate was set for Noon Friday at the Riverside County Bar Association.

Zellerbach has pretty much shot himself in the head politically. He was already in a tough reelection fight. The latest chain of events make the spectre of a second term less likely.
