Upland seal

Upland City Manager Stephen Dunn is on the firing line. His performance evaluation is the subject of a special 5 p.m. closed session City Council meeting Monday, to be followed by the regular 6 p.m. closed session, at which one of the topics is the “discipline/dismissal/release” of an unspecified employee.

Ooooh, intrigue.

Seems like the council has its ducks in a row to dump Dunn if that’s the direction they choose to pursue during the evaluation. It would take three votes out of the five-member council to fire him, though, and that seems unlikely. But with unpredictable Upland, who knows?

“There’s a wide range of rumors circulating,” Councilman Gino Filippi told me Thursday. “I’m a big Stephen Dunn supporter.”

Mayor Ray Musser, who has clashed with Dunn at times, would say little Friday about the reason for the meeting or whether Dunn’s job is in jeopardy.
