SAN BERNARDINO >> In addition to four sheriff’s deputies who already have lost their jobs at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, the FBI and sheriff officials are investigating several other deputies in the San Bernardino County jail system for alleged inmate abuse, according to a document obtained Saturday by this newspaper.

Rancho Cucamonga City Councilman Marc Steinorth (R), is one of four candidates competing in the 40th Assembly District.

The 40th Assembly District wasn’t supposed to be an open seat this year.

That changed when incumbent Assemblyman Mike Morrell, R-Rancho Cucamonga, ran in a special election to serve out the unexpired term of state Sen. Bill Emmerson, R-Redlands. Morrell won in March, leaving the district covering all or parts of Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, Highland, Loma Linda, Mentone and the city of San Bernardino without an assembly member.
