GRAND TERRACE >> Residents wanting to be on the City Council have until Wednesday to turn in their applications.

A seat became vacant when Bernardo Sandoval resigned on Jan. 14 to become the executive director of information technology for United Health Group.

Council members unanimously agreed to use the appointment process to fill the position at Tuesday’s meeting, said interim City Manager Ken Henderson.

Applications for the seat can be obtained by visiting the city’s website, City Hall, the library or the child care facilities. The application must be returned by 5 p.m.

The appointed person will fill Sandoval’s seat, which expires in November.

“The deadline to submit an application is Feb. 5 and then the council will interview the applicant at its regular meeting Feb. 11 and make a selection during that meeting,” Henderson said. “And that person will be sworn in on Feb. 25, the same day as the midyear budget.”
