SAN BERNARDINO >> At the request of the defense, the sentencing of former Councilman Chas Kelley was continued on Friday for one week.

Kelley, who pleaded guilty to one count of felony perjury in October, is scheduled to return to San Bernardino Superior Court on Dec. 20 to be sentenced.

Prosecutors say Kelley knowingly filed campaign statements from July 2006 to June 2012 that under-reported the amount his campaign had received and spent by $74,222.

He is expected to be sentenced to 90 days in county weekend jail time or work-release and five years on probation, according to a plea agreement. Kelley could serve up to four years in prison if he violates the terms of parole.

The plea bargain also leaves Kelley ineligible for public office.

Kelley resigned from his council seat and dropped out of the mayoral race on Oct. 17, just before pleading guilty.
