Older California consumers ages 55 to 64 comprise the largest group of individuals who signed up for insurance coverage in the new state health benefit exchange during October.
A total of 10,387 people in this age bracket comprise 34 percent of the total first-month enrollments in the new insurance marketplace called Covered California.
Second is the group ages 45 to 54, with 6,865 enrollments, or 22 percent of the total. Third are consumers ages 35 to 44, with 4,937 enrollments, or 16 percent, followed by consumers ages 26 to 34, with 4,580, or 15 percent of the total. The 18 to 25 age group trailed at 2,344, or 8 percent.
