The deal for Freedom Communications to purchase The Press-Enterprise newspaper, from A.H. Belo, finally closed this week, following a short delay.
Freedom also owns the Orange County Register and Victorville Daily Press.
It’s going to be interesting to see how new ownership affects the P-E.
All the Inland newspapers, with the exception of the Victorville Daily Press, are more liberal on their reporting. The Press-Enterprise, The Sun, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and Redlands Daily Facts, all have a pattern of looking the other way for their annoited favorites, regardless of the facts.
It should be noted that the three later publications are apart of the Los Angeles News Group.
Also, investigative reporting has pretty much evaporated. Especially when it comes to politicians. A symptom of declining financial resources.
The Press-Enterprise’s, look the other way, style interestingly contrasts with its staunchly-conservative editorial department.
The Orange County Register, on the other hand, has a take no prisoners approach to delivering the news. Something the Inland Empire hasn’t seen in years.
Will there be changes at The Press-Enterprise? You can bank on it!
It’ll indeed be interesting to see what those, likely welcome, changes will be.
