Amid a dispute over when local Democratic clubs are allowed to endorse, four more clubs have announced their support for Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar in his bid to represent California’s 31st Congressional District, which stretches from Upland to Redlands.

The four clubs are the East Valley Democratic Club, the Helen L. Doherty Democratic Club, the Stonewall Democratic Club and the West End Democratic Club.

“Our members voted unanimously to endorse Pete Aguilar for Congress,” the clubs’ leaders said in a joint statement, “because of his proven record of delivering results for the citizens of Redlands and his strong commitment to improving the lives of hard-working families throughout San Bernardino County. Pete’s just the leader we need to make sure that Congress is working for us.”

The Redlands Area Democratic Club endorsed Aguilar in September, and a few San Bernardino County Democrats said the club’s early endorsement broke a charter rule.

Among the critics was former Rep. Joe Baca, who along with Aguilar and two other Democrats, are aiming to unseat the incumbent, Rep. Gary Miller, R-Rancho Cucamonga, next year.

Baca expressed his frustration after news reports of the Redlands club’s endorsement of Aguilar.

Local Democratic clubs, like the Redlands Area Democrats, are governed by the San Bernardino County Democratic Central Committee.
