San Bernardino >> City Councilman Robert Jenkins was charged today in Riverside County with 30 criminal counts in an alleged identify theft and stalking case involving the use of the Internet classified ad website Craigslist.

Jenkins allegedly placed several personal advertisements on Craigslist seeking sex partners. Those who responded to the ads were directed to the two victims in the case, according to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

The ads included identifying information about the victims, including names, photographs and addresses, according to the DA’s Office. One of the alleged victims is Jenkins’ former partner and the other was either in a relationship with Jenkins’ former partner, or is an aquaintance of Jenkins’ former partner, said Jenkins’ attorney, Virginia Blumenthal.

Jenkins is a homosexual, Blumenthal said.

Jenkins also stands accused of creating a false San Bernardino Police Department internal memorandum, using the names of two department employees, Sgt. Tom Bielaszka and Lt. Dario Robinson, as well as city and Police Department seals, according to the criminal complaint, which includes felony charges of unlawfully obtaining information of another person, stalking, and forging an official state seal or that of a public officer.

Jenkins also stands charged with 12 misdemeanor counts of unlawfully distributing, via computer, personal identifying information of a harrassing nature,
