Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) has won the Special Election to fill the vacant 52nd Assembly District seat, previously vacated by now-State Senator Norma Torres.

The race was closer than expected, with Rodriguez defeating Mayor Paul Leon (NP-Ontario), by roughly a 52-48 margin.

Turnout was extremely low, for the contest that attracted very little interest.

Democrats decided not to invest any additional money into the contest, after deciding it wasn’t needed.

Late absentee and provisional ballots should be added by Friday afternoon.
