MENTONE>> The state GOP chairman has a pointed message for Redlands area conservatives: Support Gary Miller and Mike Morrell.

Jim Brulte laid out his plans as leader of California’s Republican Party during the Redlands Tea Party Patriots monthly meeting in the banquet room of Mentone’s Mill Creek Cattle Co. He will focus on maintaining a Republican majority in Congress, eliminating Democratic supermajorities in one or both state houses, and recruiting, training and providing technical support to local GOP candidates, he said to a standing room only crowd Thursday.

On the federal level, Brulte said the state party needs to focus on tight races, which means defending Republican Reps. Gary Miller, 31st; David Valadao, 21st; and Jeff Denham, 10th; and attempting to defeat Democrats Lois Capps, 24th; Scott Peters, 52nd; Julia Brownley, 26th; Paul Ruiz, 36th; and Ami Bera, 7th.

“Gary Miller is the most vulnerable Republican in the country, and Nancy Pelosi has $6 million aimed at his head,” Brulte said of his Republican congressman and the San Francisco Democrat House minority leader.

The state’s Republican Party has limited funds, which Brulte said must be spent wisely.

On the screen behind him, he pointed to a map showing areas of the Inland Empire where Miller’s 40th District overlaps with the district of State Assemblyman Mike Morrell, whom Brulte called the most vulnerable Republican in the Assembly.

“This is ground zero,” Brulte said. “The Democrats are going to spend $8-10 million kicking Mike and Gary.”
