The tenure of Bob Blough as general manager of the San Bernardino Public Employees Association, the county’s largest labor union, has come to an end.

After nine years as the union’s head and more than a month on administrative leave, Blough’s employment came to an end last week, according to the union’s website.

The reason for Blough’s departure was not disclosed.

Deidre Rodriguez, the union’s supervising labor relations representative, was named the union’s interim general manager. She did not return a phone call Thursday seeking comment.

Blough’s suspension occurred during an aggressive push by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, or IBEW, to decertify the SBPEA, which represents roughly 11,000 of the county’s approximately 19,000 employees.

Rodriguez was on the front line in the battle for SBPEA to retain its independence, according to the announcement on the union’s website.

“I consider the refusal of the membership to sign cards in support of the IBEW as a vote of confidence in the staff and the job we are doing,” Rodriguez said in a statement posted on the union website.
