Rialto >> The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools this week became the third agency to audit Rialto Unified’s Nutrition Services Department.

“We provided (Rialto Unified Superintendent Harold Cebrun) and board members with a letter” Tuesday, informing them of the audit, spokeswoman Christine McGrew said Wednesday. “We’ll be looking specifically at their nutrition services program and any related records or files.”

The audit comes in response to the arrest of district accountant Judith Oakes on Aug. 8 on suspicion of burglary, embezzlement and grand theft. According to the Rialto police, Oakes had a large amount of cash on her at the time of her arrest and more cash and evidence was discovered at her home. She resigned the next day.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office began a forensic audit of the nutrition services department after Oakes’ arrest, and on Aug. 19, the Rialto Unified school board voted to hire Rancho Cucamonga-based Stewart Investigative Services, Inc. to investigate what happened in the department.
