FONTANA — There are five candidates vying for a spot in the Fontana Unified School District special recall election if voters decide to recall two board members Tuesday.
More than 11,000 Fontana residents signed petitions this spring to oust FUSD school district members Sophia Green and Leticia Garcia.
The election will be held at 20 polling places from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The San Bernardino County Elections Office has estimated the cost the election will be about $102,000.
There are about 57,000 registered voters in the district.
Voters will be asked to decide if they want to separately recall Green or Garcia.
Then they are asked to choose a candidate should either or both be recalled.
Voters have two choices for Garcia’s position, assuming she is recalled and three for Green, if the majority of those voting chose the recall option.
The Fontana Teachers Association is backing Shannon O’Brien to succeed Garcia and Ayanna Blackmond-Balogun to replace Green.
O’Brien owns a non-profit organization that holds workshops at various school districts in the Inland Empire.
