Economy not as strong as previously thought

First Quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the value of goods and services produced by the U.S. economy, was revised downwards by a hefty 0.6% in the latest reading released Wednesday.

UC Riverside officials and local lawmakers were jubilant Thursday, June 27, after Gov. Jerry Brown signed the state budget providing $15 million a year in continuous, guaranteed funding for the university’s long-awaited medical school.

Who can defend an orphaned ballot initiative?

The question gained resonance Wednesday after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that proponents of Proposition 8, California’s voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, had no standing to pursue their appeal once California officials declined to defend the embattled law.
