Continued growth is predicted for San Bernardino and Riverside counties’ economies.

For the fifth consecutive month, the Purchasing Managers Index has predicted continued growth for two-county area.

The report registered an index of 57.9 for May, an increase from the previous month’s 54.2 — anything over 50 signifies growth, according to the Cal State San Bernardino study released Monday.

“Goods being made this quarter will likely be sold next quarter,” said Barbara Sirotnik, co-director of the Institute of Applied Research at CSUSB, which conducts the local study.

Additionally, area purchasing managers grew more optimistic in May believing that the economy will gain strength in the coming quarter, with 35 percent predicting growth, up from 25 percent the previous month. In contrast, 21 percent predicted the economy would weaken, down from 25 percent from April.
