Continuing a trend dating back to 2006, in-state consumption of gasoline declined in 2012 compared with the previous year, according to the California Board of Equalization.

In 2012, 14.5 billion gallons of gasoline were used, down from about 14.6 billion in 2011.

Even with reduced consumption, BOE member George Runner noted that “Californians paid a record $8.3 billion in fuel taxes last year.”
