FONTANA — A recall campaign for two school board members is heating up even though the election is more than two months away.
Mayor Acquanetta Warren has been busy posting on her Facebook page – and others – posters made by proponents of recalling Fontana Unified school board members Leticia Garcia and Sophia Green. The election is July 16.
One of the posts last week had a circle with a line running through Garcia and Green and the words “No Convicted Criminals” beside it.
Among the cyberspace locations where Warren placed this item was the Fontana Teachers Association website.
That posting drew outrage, not only from Green, but from several current and former members of the teachers group.
Association President Pat Mazzulli said he saw the posting on his cellphone while driving into work and tried to remove it but couldn’t.
When he got to the office it had already been removed, he said.
Mazzulli said neither he nor his staff regularly patrol the teachers association Facebook page “because we are really busy working on behalf of our members … . We don’t have time. People doing the posts are responsible for what they post. ”
Warren said she has been automatically posting campaign posters that residents send her via email.
“This is a real grassroots movement,” she said. “Anybody that sends me a sign, I’m going to post it.”
Warren said she took the “No Convicted Criminals” poster down when she got another one to keep things fresh.
