San Bernardino County on Tuesday settled its nearly 9-year-old lawsuit against the city of Upland and two transportation agencies regarding the county’s landmark settlement with Rancho Cucamonga investor group Colonies Partners LP in 2006.

The county has spent $26 million on the lawsuit, and Upland officials were concerned the legal battle would bankrupt the city.

“This is a universal, walk-away settlement that allows us to stop paying attorneys and put the taxpayers dollars back to use on infrastrutcure, transportation and flood control projects,” Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Janice Rutherford said Tuesday in a news conference outside County Government Center.
