CHINO HILLS – Ray Marquez has been elected to fill a City Council vacancy.

Marquez along with Debra Kay Hernandez, Rossana Mitchell and Jesse Singh are competing to succeed Bill Kruger, who resigned from the council in September.

Marquez, 46, is a retired firefighter who now serves as a board member for the Chino Valley Independent Fire District.

The San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters’ semi-official election results had Marquez in the lead with 46 percent of the votes. All precincts had been counted.

Marquez credited his success to his experience and involvement in the community to his lead.
