San Bernardino County is about to make good on its promise to have the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) take over enforcement of campaign finance laws in the county.
On Tuesday, County supervisors are set to approve a new two-year $493,296 contract with the commission, which runs from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2014.
The contract places outside third party oversight and enforcement of political and campaign-related offenses.
The move should clip the wings of a District Attorney, who’s used the state’s campaign finance statutes to attack political enemies, while at the same time protect allies and not-to-mention himself.
FPPC Chair Ann Ravel has previously said that independent oversight and enforcement would be good for San Bernardino County.
Frankly, we’re sure that many people agree and welcome the change.
I am one of the many who “agree” and “welcome the change.”
Anybody else find it ironic that James Ramos will be a member of the Board of Supervisors as they take this step?
I am glad supervisors Rutherford and Lovingood had big fundraisers last weekend to retire their debt before the new law comes into effect. Also the DA keeps going back to SEBA for more money before 2013. Why? New LAW!!!
They should take the $400,000 out of the PIU.
Surely this isn’t just another $500,000 bribe by the County for the FPPC to be “lenient” on our rouge public officials? Kind of like the $20K/yr. stipend to payoff all the state judges to make decisions favoring the County? The FPPC better get those COMPLAINT FORMS in order, because now the BOS & the DA’s PIU aren’t going to be able to STONEWALL the public about POLITICAL BIAS AND FAVORITISM, CRONYISM and the current government standard CONFLICTS-OF-INTEREST.
With just about every IE politician or bureaucrat participating in one way or another in the POLITICAL FREE-FOR-ALL (EX.: The Colonies Settlement & Conspiracy prosecution, aka cover-up, including the County’s infamous active case of LEGAL SERVICES FRAUD aka the Colonies Indemnity Lawsuit), this new program better have some teeth via the CA Attorney General’s office. Or better yet, earmark half the $500K/ yr. to be spent on this program (that should be going towards a CITIZENS ETHICS COMMISSION instead) to set-up a companion SB office for the FBI’s ANTI-CORRUPTION TASK FORCE.
Little Stevie Wonder:
I don’t understand what you mean when you say “The Colonies Settlement & Conspiracy prosecution, aka cover-up.” What is the “cover up?”
I also don’t understand what you mean when you say “the County’s infamous active case of LEGAL SERVICES FRAUD aka the Colonies Indemnity Lawsuit.” What are you referring to?
Observer, how come you only understand the Facts when Joe Nelson puts it in print, why can’t you read between the lines… it’s all about the money (and those massive attorney and other legal fees!)
The Colonies Boyz, supposedly in concert with GOP politico Jimbo Brulte, set the wheels in motion, and then let the Mikey and Moonbeam Show take over, costing the taxpayers dearly. The cost of “making it right” for the developer is not just questionable BOS-approved $102M settlement, but also the County’s finance costs, along with all the legal fees getting racked-up by the attorneys for DA Mikey’s office, County Counsel, SanBAG w/ BB&K, CalTrans (does the AG’s office have a conflict?) and the City of Upland.
And who are the ones that really STAND TO PROFIT the longer the case is stretched-out due to the willful negligence of the authorities, who’s duty to the public is to uphold the law and insure justice for all?
Judging from your style of posing questions for which you already know the answer, you must be in denial too (just like Mikey and Moonbeam), it’s not a career it’s a profession, Observe the Fact that it’s ALL ABOUT THE LAWYERING!
FIRST RULE OF LAW:
ATTORNEYS RULE (especially when the judges, who are attorneys first, are paid to play along) R U 1 2?
LSW…..So do you think Larson is paying off Ramos to keep the case going?
And isn’t the AG with a conflict, now the Governor of the Welfare State of California.
Classic White Collar Welfare in action.
Don’t know, but Larson is being paid by the taxpayers too… all that settlement money.
Do know that JB was quoted in The Sun newspaper saying something about “Doubling Down” on the IE, and with $102M in taxpayer cash made available by his friendly local government politicians, in order to have the capital to do so.
Wish I had an open account with the Bank of San Bernardino County like they’ve offered the Colonies Partners (or was it really called the Arrowhead Credit Union before the Feds took them down?)
Little Stevie Wonder:
I read comment #6 three (3) times. I mentioned once that your comments are exhausting to read, and I ratify that sentiment.
I hear you loud a clear on a number of your positions, and appreciate your not including an irrelevant “Devilreaux” in the comment.
However, I do not see where you answered my question: What is the “cover-up” you are referring to?
And no, I am not an attorney.
LSW….do you mean the cover ups that have been uncovered or the ones no one knows about?
Anonymous #11:
Please give an example of one (1) of the “cover ups that have been uncovered.”
LSW, re #6:
I agree, LSW is a fruitcake.
Its funny how morons like you seem to have no use for attorneys….until you get sued, want to sue someone or get arrested. YOU’RE a real idiot.
Rex being on the phone with Burum while he (Rex) was in meetings with Burum’s competitors during their development presentations. I’m sure no one was supposed to know about that.
Anonymous #14:
Finally, a semi-valid point. I say semi-valid because it’s not like Rex was giving Mr. Burum information about his “competitors” before he made his presentation. That would have been totally egregious.
Check the facts, and I believe you will learn that Mr. Burum’s group made the first presentation, and Rex called him to update him about the subsequent presentations. Those calls certainly could have waited, or not been made at all.
This is one of those facts that gets twisted, like when one media reported that Paul Biane was “apprehended” at the airport.
