The dog and pony show over the appointment of San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Rod Hoops successor is about to end.
The Board of Supervisors is set to select Assistant Sheriff John McMahon to fill the remainder of Hoops four-year term, which ends in January 2015.
Hoops has announced he will officially retire later this month.
After all the posturing by county supervisors, and others, the desired outcome will finally be recorded. The matter is listed under item 105 on Tuesday’s regular meeting agenda.
The same board item also directs staff to prepare a charter amendment to require any mid-term vacancies of county elected offices to be filled by special election, instead of appointment.
While a good idea, the proposal is nothing more than a red-herring diversion and excuse to give supervisors cover to appoint handpicked McMahon.

Is there not ANY small print in the documents Hoops signed at the Registrar of Voters when he sought to run for office, that states he MUST serve the FULL term of the office sought..or sanctions will be imposed?
I mean, the Registrar of “Voters” is paid by the County to prevent such political hanky panky! I’d sure like to pour over EVERY document Hoops sighed over there…especially that fine print.
Is there a bigger bunch of scumbags and crooks around?
In answer to that question “NO”.
Thanks Josie and Hoops for another two years of the same crap. Schrader and Bushey where lied to. Neither ever got interviewed. BOS Liars!!
