All the spin and posturing over the early retirement of San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Rod Hoops is making for interesting these days.
It was one thing to read articles regarding Hoops pulling the plug. It’s another to read the stories that followed.
First, prior to Hoops appointment in 2009, then-Sheriff Gary Penrod met with now-retired Undersheriff Richard Beemer, and now also retired Assistant Sheriff Warren Nobles, and Hoops.
Penrod wanted one of the three gentlemen to take his place and it was up to them, as long as that person would serve the remainder of Penrod’s term and also agree to run for and serve at least one full term.
Beemer was only interested if he didn’t have to run for election in two years. In other words two years and out. Nobles wasn’t interested period.
So Hoops agreed to take the helm.
Now we have Hoops bailing out midway through his first term.
Hmmm…
Now back to those news stories.
What’s interesting is the length that Hoops is making it clear that he’s under no pressure to leave and it’s just the right time for him to go.
All the pronouncements fall into the category of “spin”. Yes, I know his son is at the U.A. Air Force Academy. But his son has been there for more than two years and will be reassigned following his graduation.
Now comes the new drama.
Hoops handpicked successor in Assistant Sheriff John McMahon. Yes I said picked!
The deal is done. Even though it’s no secret Undersheriff Robert Fonzi also wants the job.
County Supervisors have already been approached and have given the unofficial wink to McMahon.
In other words, you can take this one to the bank.
Forget about what Board of Supervisors Chair Josie Gonzales says about no decision has yet been made. She’s lying.
Frankly, county supervisors can do whatever they want after Hoops officially vacates the office in December.
If they want to appoint McMahon, Fonzi, Retired Deputy Chief Keith Bushey, who has also thrown his hat into the ring, they can.
After all, since when hasn’t the deck been stacked in San Bernardino County.

” …it’s just the right time for him to go.”
GO WHERE?
Hoops made clear his “Washington DC” “foundation” gig is official ONLY by way of that “fancy title” after his name, and that he is NOT going to Washington DC; he will stay and “work from [giggle giggle] HOME”
Nonetheless, it’s all quite SWEEEEET; do to where it is all leading.
About me feeling like, “a watch spring that is winding down.” NOT ANY MORE..This Hoops chapter has my blood pumping again, but only as a spectator this time. I’m staying out of the way, and in the sidelines, but cheering them on ALL THE WAY! This is serious business, and it seems it is being handled surgically.
About Hoops picking McMahon…Hoops and McMahon’s friendship reminds me of that looney tune cartoon…..
“What I’m gonna do is to petcha and play witcha, George.”
“Now I gotcha, my little friend. I’m gonna petcha and hold ya and petcha and petcha and petcha.”
Sounds like a Derry/ Romney prediction to me.
Don’t forget, ADWDG: Anything Devilreaux Wants Devilreaux Gets!
Didn’t see the Devil’s endorsement anywhere in your equation for who will become the next Sheriff, and as just about everybody knows, that is the only opinion that matters anymore in San Bernardino County (the BOS do exactly as he says).

Another “good old white boy” insider appointment. Why aren’t county leaders looking at African-American, Latino, Asian or Female persons for this position. I urge minority community leaders to demand that County Supervisors include minorities and women in their candidate pool for this important leadership post!!

WRONG
Cut the color nonsense…
That sort of thinking got us Josie Gonzales, Joe Baca and Mike Ramos…let’s stick with MOST QUALIFIED, period!!!
The Board of Supervisors should appoint Paul Schrader as the next sheriff. McMahon, Fonzi, Retired Deputy Chief Keith Bushey all failed to run for the office. Why give it to one of those who failed to rune. Schrader was the runnerup in the election. Hoops leaves in the mddle of his term, Schrader should be appointed.
There is a petition going around to appoint Schrader as the sheriff.
Sign it!!!

Sorry Mr. White.
The winds have changed these past two years, and there are more individuals wanting IN on this FIGHT and have NOW the courage and interest in taking this position on; more qualified and with the BRAWN required currently in San Bernardino County-we have NO time to waste!
Schrader is a “nice” man, but he has gotten a swollen head listening to a tiny circle of fools wanting to CATAPULT him into the leadership position he is NOT prepared to handle.
Nothing personal against Schrader, but “nice” will not cut it- we will fight back on his blind and arrogant insistence to place himself at the head of the table…he should be part of the team if he is sincere about change.

#7 It’s funny, more people want in the fight. Schrader is the only man for the job. You have posted this same shit on another post. You sound like a Hoops boy.
Where were these so called fighters in the 2010 election. They were missing in action because they do not have the balls or brawn like SCHRADER. They see a chance they can get a handout or something free. They have not earned it nor run for it. This makes me sick to see these weak jack want a job now they do not need to work for it
The appointed want-a-bees have never met a fighter like Schrader. I know Paul and this stuff about swollen head is sore grape speaking. You must love the shit Beef put out in the past.
Save that winds of change for what is coming out of McMahon – HOT AIR.
Schrader is a “nice” man, and is the leadership needed to take this Department forward.
Everything you said is personal against Schrader.
You also said “we will fight back on his blind and arrogant insistence to place himself at the head of the table…he should be part of the team if he is sincere about change.”
Who is the we you idiot. You do not invite anyone to the table. The voters did and they picked Hoops, Schrader was the runner-up. They asked for Schrader to be at that table.
Schrader is next in line for Sheriff, the others wanted it for free. They could have run in 2010, but did not have the guts.
Stop speaking like you are the authority.
” THEY asked for Schrader to be at that table.”
Yes, “AT” the table…but not at the “head” of the table. We do NOT dislike, nor desire to disrespect Mr. Schrader, he IS a good man, and we want him part of the team.
When Scharader threw in his hat “HE” put himself on the ballot and was NOT elected…
======= THIS MAKES THE SLATE OPEN AND CLEAR AGAIN.
SO…it’s silly and absurd to state that he is “next in line”…he is WELCOMED to throw in his hat AGAIN…BUT, the playing field is WIDE OPEN…no more “I was runner up, SO GIVE IT TO ME” nonsense.
“Where were these so called fighters in the 2010 election.” you ask.
In 2010, they were well aware that exposing the ugly deep rooted corruption was NOT a “one mans” JOB!!!
They did not put themselves in a position of serious repercussions where they would be too crippled to later help…THEY WISELY AND PATIENTLY OPTED TO WAIT IT OUT UNTIL THE TIDE CHANGED IN THEIR FAVOR….THEY ARE RIDING THAT TIDE AS WE SPEAK! You can’t see too much, it’s more like a deadly undercurrent brewing.
Bottom line, Mr. Schrader was NEVER a serious threat, so they just ignored him and let him be; still, there will always be a certain respect towards Mr. Schrader– but he knew full well going in, it was a LOST cause.
TWO YEARS LATER– IT’S A WAR, not a “ONE MAN’S SHOW”
A WAR THAT REQUIRES TIGHT LIPS because this time around, those in the war ARE men of power, influence and knowledge…and they are a definite THREAT, unlike Schrader, and the stakes are HIGH-for BOTH sides.
#10 You have a lot of BIG talk and use the term WE. You sound like a bunch of hot air.
Hoops took Schrader serious you idiot. He spent $250,000. Oh I guess he did that because Schrader was not a threat. Go back and tell you boy that he should keep his lips shut.
Cowards wait for a free ride like the two waiting with their hands out. Warriors fight in the heat od battle.
You need to take you crayons and go home to your so called WE.
So why don’t you ask Hoops why he spent over $250,000 on someone he ignored.
#10 You are a joke.
Mr. Paul Schrader you have a bunch of us that support you.
Let the cowards come out from the shadows just like this coward and spew their crap. We know you as an honored warrior. Not one who wants a free ride.
MR. SCHRADER take your rightful place at the head of the table. The voters have spoken!!!
#10 By the way be at the Board of Supervisors meeting at 11:00 AM on Nov. 27th. The voters will speak again!!
P.S. # 9
In response to your accusation:
“You have posted this same shit on another post.”
No, you got the wrong person—”the other” blog (ie politic) has blocked ME from posting …and has ridiculously threatened to report “little old” harmless ME to the sheriff’s department! I even believe she claimed to have already done so, and that she reported my IP# LOL!
And report me for WHAT?? Certainly NOT threats…
But I do speak the truth and it offends Sharon Gilbert that her own dark hatred, phony drama, YEARS OF SLEEPING, AND AIDING AND ABETTING the worst of the worst of SBC corruption was exposed.
Note: what ANYBODY reads on the ie blog has ALL BEEN FILTERED…or blocked -LIKE ME- she’ll let in a few harmless critics AFTER review for appearances, but NOT ME, her whole blog is a “FOOLS WATER HOLE” and a sham.
There’s a reason why INLAND POLITICS is highly regarded and taken seriously as the PULSE of the IE; no game playing here, no “hot air” as you claim, no spin, we mean business, and Erwin has in turn respected us by staying out of our opinions, and allowing our comments to evolve as we speak our minds– without him EVER once interfering!

I’ll just read about the outcome, but thanks for the invite.
#14 It’s nice to have spirit in what you think is right. God Bless on that point. I will check this site more if it is as you say. My stance is to stand with what and whom PAUL SCHRADER, I think is right and wil do the better job. As you have done. I still want to know who is we? I know the county has a political machine, so are you part of that or just a group of concerned voters like myself? It’s time to start making the machine go away.
“It’s time to start making the machine go away.”
Not if their interests have shifted away from themselves and they’re now using their established positions to do right by us “voters” as you say.
It’s tough right now, but hang in there, we’re half way
#16, It’s Time!
Big news will be coming re Hoops’s resignation. Stay tuned for the next few days.

Just STOP it!!!!
You are getting Will Rogers upset!
