The increasingly personal competition between Republican Mike Morrell and Democrat Russ Warner for the 40th Assembly District seat took a new turn today when Morrell’s camp issued a press release touting the endorsement of his opponent’s sister.
Morrell’s side headlined their announcement as “Mike Morrell for Assembly announces endorsement … from opponent’s own sister.”
The statement goes on to identify one Nancy Warner-Moore as the Democratic candidate’s sibling. She says in the release that she has known Morrell for several years.
“Mike has proven that he is the voice we need to make California Business friendly again. Mike Morrell has been good for our community and the State of California,” Warner-Moore said in the statement.
Contact information for Warner-Moore could not be immediately found. Warner’s campaign spokesman, however, did not deny the endorsement but instead criticized Morrell’s delving into a family disagreement as “childish and petty.”
“My response would be that Russ Warner loves his sister,” Lehrer said in a telephone interview. “Like many American families, differences in political opinion often exist.”
The 40th Assembly District includes parts of Rancho Cucamonga, the Cajon Pass area, San Bernardino, Highland and Redlands.
