CHINO – It was one come back after another as mayoral candidates Dennis Yates and Lee McGroarty squared off Wednesday night in a debate-style forum.
Current Mayor Yates and his opponent McGroarty shared different views on almost every question thrown their way, including pension reform, how help decrease poverty in the city, finances and how to bring in new business.
The only subject the two didn’t debate on was their commitment to public safety.

This is the third office Lee McGroarty has ran for in 2 years. First, Congress. Then several months later, Chino City Council and now Mayor.
When he first ran for Congress many wondered why he didn’t run for local office instead. His response? “If I thought our local leaders were doing a poor job, I would run for City Council. Chino and Chino Hills Councilmen do a terrific job.”
Apparently losing his first race changed his mind because a few months later he was running for local office. Lee just wants to be elected to office, any office.
If I remember correctly, at the time McGroarty had some very specific criticisms of Congressman Miller all backed up by research. Also it was about this same time that Councilman Elrod was to have discovered in a very questionable hit and run offense which was covered up by the Chino City Council. The concerns were echoed my another long time Chino resident Pat McArdel who also ran for council. A lot of Chino residents agree there is a lot of questionable practices with this long time incumbent council. It is time for a change!
I find it petty that Anonymous is bringing up the number of times a candidate decides to run for office. Is there a limit as to how many times a person can run for office? How many years has Dennis Yates ruled City of Chino? Twenty years is a long time, Anonymous. That’s one year short of Marcos ruling the Philippines… and the people run him out of the country with America coming to his aid. If not now, when? When do you think it is time for Yates to go? A few days ago, I read an article in the Champion that the north side of Chino feels that they’ve been neglected. You probably think that Chino is being run great. Have you tried driving around Chino? In the twenty years and with the redevelopment funding in the amount that the City has been getting, you would think that the streets and sidewalks should have been maintained well. Just west of Central, on Riverside Drive… have you seen the condition of the streets? Some areas with no sidewalks at all, same north of the 60 freeway with areas north of Philadelphia. I guess Yates and the other Council people find it more important to enrich themselves than do their jobs in making Chino a better place to live in and shop. How about his position at AQMD as Vice Chair since 2004? You mean to tell me that he is in the governing board and he did nothing to protect Chino from a lawsuit where it cost the City $250,000 to settle a case with a seedy lawyer who goes around suing cities for their General Plan not conforming to the environmental laws in California? Which I can tell you is totally bogus to begin with. Yates has got to go. The other council members next.
