Democrat Gregg D. Fritchle, a social worker who finished last when he ran for Walnut City Council, is trying to unseat Republican Assemblyman Curt Hagman in the 55th Assembly District.

Hagman, of Chino Hills, currently represents the 60th Assembly District. During the redistricting process, he was redrawn into the 55th Assembly District.

The new 55th is similar to the 60th, spanning parts of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties and including the cities of Rowland Heights, Diamond Bar, Walnut and Chino Hills.

Hagman said he will continue to fight against excessive taxes and burdensome regulations.

“Job creation and economic recovery need to be the top priority,” he said.

Fritchle, who made two unsuccessful runs for the Walnut City Council in the early 2000s, said the state needs realistic solutions to address its deficit, including a severance tax for oil drilling.
