The San Bernardino County Democratic Party has a new chairman.

Maybe.

Chris Robles, a former Los Angeles County Democratic Party board member, was elected Thursday to run the San Bernardino County Democratic Central Committee by a 31 to 22 vote.

Some committee members are raising concerns because of what is perceived as a troubling background in his L.A. County Democratic Party days.

And Thursday’s ballots are in the process of being reviewed, according to committee member Tim Prince, a San Bernardino attorney.

Robles violated the Political Reform Act, according to a written reprimand from the state Fair Political Practices Commission, by failing to properly report contributions and file timely campaign statements while treasurer for the 58th Assembly District Democratic campaign.

According to records from the offices of the California Secretary of State and the Montebello City Clerk, the Montebello-based committee that supported him for county party treasurer had not filed campaign statements since 2003.
