San Bernardino County Planning Commission approved this morning a proposal from a Spanish-language broadcasting company that wants to erect a radio tower above Wildwood Canyon State Park in Yucaipa.
The commission approved the proposal on a 3-2 vote.
The proposal from Oxnard-based Lazer Broadcasting Corporation is before the San Bernardino County Planning Commission. This is the third time in five years the proposal has been considered by the commission.
The city of Yucaipa and a citizens group aggressively opposed the project.
“Why turn a beautiful act of creation into a ghetto in the wildnerness,” said Redlands resident Albert Kelly, at the hearing.
Lazer, which owns and operates 19 Spanish-language radio stations in 10 California markets, wants to erect the tower near the intersection of Oak Glen and Wildwood Canyon roads, west of Pisgah Peak Road.
