The newly-formed and mostly purposeless Ontario International Airport Authority has two new members appointed by the Ontario City Council.
Outgoing Riverside Mayor Ron Loveridge and Lucy Dunn, President and CEO of the Orange County Business Council are now on the authority board of directors.
Whew! There’s other cities and counties involved.
Well, not really.
You see, ever since the authority, which has the goal of wresting control of Ontario International Airport from Los Angeles World Airports, was proposed and created, there’s been criticism over the true legal and limited make-up of authority participants.
Currently, control of the actual Authority rests with the City of Ontario and County of San Bernardino.
Many believe the authority needs broader government membership and the accompanying deep pockets.
Deep pockets will be needed, should the Authority ever gain control of the airport, in order to subsidize operations until, if and when, the facility becomes profitable.
Hopefully officials, and their respective egos, will think the situation through carefully.
