Upland contractor John Hennes was sentenced today to 12 months — six months in jail and six months of home confinement — for his role in a federal bribery case involving former Upland mayor John Pomierski and a local business.
Hennes was sentenced during proceedings in U.S. District Court in Riverside. Federal prosecutors were seeking 18-24 months in jail plus a fine, but the judge was moved by Hennes’ story and acceptance of guilt.
Hennes’ attorney Ken White wanted a sentence of straight probation.
“He made a mistake, but this mistake does not wash out all the good things he’s done,” said White.

Six months in jail for bribery. WOW. Those federal judges are really tough. With judges like this who needs criminals?
What a disgrace. This person should be impeached and removed from the bench. Worthless. Absolutely worthless.
He was indicted on 11 felony counts. Plead guilty to two felonies – bribery and lying to the FBI. The Ex-mayor struck a deal for only one charge and got two years. They both got off very, very easy. The good ole boys network is still soundly in tact in the I.E. That’s for sure!
What does this mean for the two “little” guys, Crebs & Sanchez? Watch the two guys with no part of the “good Ole Boys” network are going to pay the biggest price……
Anon 1&2……I’m glad you came to that conclusion, just remember that these are Burum buddies and he is a major part of that Red Hill good ol boy Mafia network you speak of. It looks like everyone is getting a wet noodle whipping.
Upland Resident…..No Crebs is related to a colonies partner so I hear that their punishment is going to be that they will be striped naked and tickled by playmates for an hour, after which they will be treated to steak tar-tar at Red Hill.
Anonymous #4:
In addition to a California Superior Court Judge and a retired Supreme Court Judge, now you seem to feel that Jeff Burum was able to influence a Judge in U.S. District Court.
The corrupt Judge theory that you, Repairman, and others continue to assert is getting to be ridiculous.
However, I suspect that will not stop you from claiming that Mr. Burum corrupted the three Appellate Court Judges if you do not agree with their upcoming ruling on the dismissal of the charges against Mr. Burum.
I’ve heard rumors about Upland City Manager Dunn. A extra-marital affair with his assistant. Anyone know anything?
FedUp – who cares about rumors? Upland is on the ledge of municipal bankruptcy. Repeat: BK
OOF….You forgot to address comments 1,2,and 3, they seem to draw the same conclusion as me and Repairman. This is a very simple scenario, If there is smoke there is fire and the Burum crowd are enveloped in smoke. Here is another one for you, If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it must be a duck, the Burum crowd should be flying south for the winter. As to his ability to bribe judges, why not? He certainly has enough money for it. Why else would he hire an attorney that was so hungry for money that he gave up his seat as a superior court judge because he felt the pay was too small? As to the appellate court ruling, I’ll take your comment to mean that the fix is in since all of Burum’s camp seem to know something no one else knows. Wink-Wink.
@ paresthesia. Rumors become facts and facts expose corruption. The reason I even brought it up is that it shows the morals and values (or lack of) of Dunn.
Who has been Uplands finance director and then City manager for over 9 years? “Upland is on the ledge of municipal bankruptcy.” Because of the arrogance and incompetence of the now City Manager Stephen Dunn.
Scenario: Dunn has affair with co-worker, Musser finds out and uses it to control Dunn and Musser is Tom Mitchell’s puppet.
Now you see how really screwed up Upland is?
“Now you see how really screwed up Upland is?”
…and from the outside, a passerby only sees a clean, safe and thriving city…who knew!
Anon 11…..You should have tried opening a restaurant there around the time of Chronic. There is nothing thriving about a mayor that strong arms businesses.
Anonymous 11 – Maybe you should try driving around Upland. Don’t know where you get thriving city? Half of downtown is empty, half of the foothill corridor is empty, the city is laying off workers. Doesn’t look to thriving to me, looks like blight is setting in!
Red, that’s why I said, “Who Knew” and Fed Up is correct!
I did notice, a few years back, that even then many business locations were empty- perhaps over built, or a refection of the greedy chaos in city hall. And yes, the Mayor was, still is, scum and should move to an island somewhere!
#14 – You got it right on that one. If and I repeat if Upland can escape the pending trial over flood control issues re Colonies deveopment, there is reason for hope, if not Dunn and company will be seeking bankruptcy regardless of what the mayor Barney Musser is telling the Sentinel newspaper and his blind followers.
Blind followers? Musser is a bumbling idiot! Tom Mitchell is the one pulling all the strings. Just look at the slime he got the Daily Bulletin to print about Gino. I am not for any of them! But Tom Mitchell is scum and he has proven it over and over!!!!
Blind followers? Musser is a bumbling idiot! Tom Mitchell is the one pulling all the strings. Just look at the slime he got the Daily Bulletin to print about Gino. I am not for any of them! But Tom Mitchell is the problem and he has proven it over and over!!!!
FedUp – You are correct. Ray Musser is a bumbling idiot and Mitchell is part of his goon squad. I know how they play the game and now Gino also knows. Ray uses other people because he does not have the courage to do it himself. He will shift the dirty work to whoever is willing to do the job. Not much can be done with those who work behind the curtain.
Interesting… the vote that idiot Mitchell accuses Gino of being in favor of the Fire Union was actually a 4-0 vote (Musser absent of course) approved a contract that the Fire Union was not in favor of ultimately.
