CalPERS is asking its vendors to give the big pension fund a discount to cope with budget cuts.
Noting that the state is implementing a 5 percent pay cut for state workers, CalPERS sent a letter to approximately 630 contractors July 27 seeking help “during these challenging economic times.”
The letter doesn’t say how much of a fee reduction CalPERS is seeking, but refers to the 5 percent cut handed to state workers.
“We are reaching out to our business partners to assist us in achieving our efforts to reduce the operating expenses for the system,” says the letter, signed by CalPERS Chief Executive Anne Stausboll.
