WASHINGTON – One of them is among the most vocal advocates in Congress for comprehensive immigration reform, including a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

The other has championed legislation to end birthright citizenship altogether for the children of the undocumented.

They differ on health care, tax issues and other major issues of the day. But this election season, Democratic Rep. Joe Baca and Republican Rep. Gary Miller have forged an unlikely alliance as they attempt to fend off challenges from members of their own parties.

State Sen. Gloria Negrete McLeod, D-Chino, is running against Baca for the 35th District seat and state Sen. Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, is facing Miller for the 31st District seat.

n recent interviews, Baca and Miller repeatedly praised one another and emphasized their strong working relationship. The two are campaigning in adjacent congressional districts, which together span the entire San Bernardino Valley.
