Today marks the start of the four-week nomination period for those interested in running for local city councils, school boards and a variety of water districts in November.
The last day to submit completed nomination papers is Aug. 10, though any race in which an incumbent does not run will be extended to Aug. 15.
Candidates for city councils can pick up papers at their respective city halls.
School and other board candidates can pick up papers at their registrar of voters office.
Also this week, the Upland City Council will hold a special closed session meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday to discuss employment of a city attorney.
The council in April went out to bid for a new contract for city attorney services. The council will meet in the Carnegie Library at 123 E. D St.
