Here’s some news from across transom this week.

Unemployment numbers continue in the tank

This weeks report on first-time jobless claims dropped by 6,000. But the previous weeks number was revised upwards by essentially the same number.

The June unemployment report is due on Friday, July 6.

Obama edges up in national tracking polls.

President Barack Obama has picked up a few points on Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney over the past week.

In the Gallup tracking poll, of 3,050 registered voters, Obama leads Romney 47% to 44%, with a margin of error of +/- 2.0%.

In the Rasmussen Reports tracking poll, of 1,500 likely voters, Obama leads 46% to 44%, with a margin of error of +/- 3.0%.

Last week Romney was slightly leading in both.

Both polls cover periods through 6/29/12.

Still no budget for San Bernardino

That’s right! Still no budget for the county seat this July 1.

The city is operating under a continuing resolution until leaders figure out some way to tell residents they’re broke and the deficit is millions more than what they have been portraying.

Sabo quietly departs as counsel for local governments

Attorney Tim Sabo, a long time fixture in the local San Bernardino County government scene, has quietly departed.

A few months ago Sabo stopped appearing at meetings of the Inland Valley Development Agency and San Bernardino International Airport Authority.

Two agencies that will likely have much to answer for in the coming months and years.

Now Sabo has revealed he’s departed his law firm Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard and Smith and went out consulting on his own.

Sabo has also been absent from San Bernardino City meetings.

Maybe the Titanic scenario is in play here.
