Passenger traffic at LA/Ontario International Airport continued its downward trend in May, falling 5.74 percent from the same month in 2011.
Overall, numbers of passengers flying in and out of ONT have dropped 6.80 percent for the first five months of 2012 compared to the previous year, according to figures released Thursday.
One positive note was the improvement in the amount of air cargo tonnage through the airport in May. It was up 29.47 percent as compared to May 2011. For the year, the amount of tons passing through the airport is up 16.31 percent.
Southwest Airlines remains the No. 1 carrier at ONT, with 53.76 percent of the passengers using the low-cost airline.
Passenger traffic at Los Angeles International Airport fell slightly in May as compared to the same month in 2011. Traffic was down 1.17 percent in May but remains 3.95 percent ahead of last year for the first five months of 2012.
Cargo tonnage at LAX was up 14.42 percent in May and shows a 7.04 percent increase for the year to date.

I have flown twice so far this year and have three tickets to Kauai purchased for next month…all out of LAX! I hate that I can not use Ontario, but the saving to fly out of LAX are too great to ignore. Put it this way, I can go out to a nice fish dinner and zip line in Kauai for the savings.
