Riverside Councilman Mike Gardner is throwing his support to mayoral candidate and Ward 3 Councilman William “Rusty” Bailey, Gardner announced Friday, June 15.
Bailey and former councilman Ed Adkison will vie for the mayor’s seat in a November runoff after taking the top two spots in a field of seven candidates on June 5.
Gardner, who came in third in the June 5 election, said his choice was based on the fact that not everyone on the dais has worked with Adkison because he’s been off the council about five years, while Bailey is a known quantity. The city needs a council and mayor that can work together, Gardner said.
“I am more confident of Rusty’s ability to work with the council than I am of Ed’s,” Gardner said. “If you get a mayor that tries to act too strongly it raises the possibility of there being a divide between the council and the mayor.”

William Bailes doesn’t want the Sun to endorse him. BILL JAHN received a Sun endorsement and the Republicans received 19% of the vote for the California 33rd Assembly District.
The Sun is the worst local paper in the state. Yellow journalism, horrible reporting, biased editorials, managed by the worst scumbag they could have found. What a disgrace. The rag is literally good for nothing.
