UPLAND – An active volunteer in the city has announced her intention to run for City Council.

Sheri Haendiges will run for an open City Council seat in November.

“I am so tired of this city’s complacency in organization and I feel that the people that elected these officials have been let down by their mayor and council,” Haendiges said in an email.

“It’s time for new people to bring some substance to the council. I want that opportunity since I have no plans to leave. I love Upland but I’m not happy with its direction.”

Haendiges has lived in Upland for 37 years and has participated in numerous community organizations. She has 30 years of volunteer experience in the community.

Her current positions include being lieutenant governor of the Upland-Foothill Kiwanis Club, on the Board of Directors at Coy D. Estes Senior Center and the Upland Police Foundation, and a founding member of the Upland Community Partnership for Youth.

She also volunteers for Upland-based boys home Children’s Hope.

Haendiges has built many relationships with city residents and officials during her volunteer work, which she hopes will strengthen her candidacy.
