UPLAND – The City Council on Monday approved a board of directors for the San Antonio Water Co. just in the nick of time.

Council members narrowly approved a seven-member board, which will be voted on April 3 at San Antonio’s annual stockholders meeting.

“I think everybody’s happy,” Mayor Ray Musser said.

Councilman Ken Willis, Tom Thomas, Sue Sundell, Glenn Bozar and Will Elliott were reappointed to their seats on the board.

Bob Cable, San Antonio Heights Association board member and owner of Cable Airport, as well as John Gerardi, a resident of San Antonio Heights, were added to the board.

Current members Fred Gattas and Brian Brandt were not re-appointed.

Musser pulled the item from the Feb. 13 council agenda so he could give more consideration to the appointments.

He had put a committee together to interview applicants before deciding on the appointees.

The council reached a tie vote at its meeting on March 12.

Musser revisited the list of appointees and replaced Gattas with Cable.

“The committee came up with John being the No. 1 candidate and Bob Cable sort of being the No. 2,” Musser said.

“Bob is at the airport. They’re part of the water system. The other thing was, he’s on the board at the Heights. That gives them a lot of what they wanted.”

Some residents of San Antonio Heights had recently pushed for greater representation on the board.

Committee member and Councilman Gino Filippi voted against the proposed board on March 12 and on Monday.
