SAN BERNARDINO – The Inland Empire 66ers’ home stadium will be renamed as San Manuel Stadium, according to an announcement of a “major new partnership” between the Single A ballclub and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.

A news release revealed the new name by announcing a media conference is scheduled to take place at the downtown San Bernardino stadium on Thursday.

Team spokesman Sam Farber said Monday that he could not elaborate on other details that may be announced at the Thursday event.

“It’s certainly something that we’ll be tackling at the press conference,” he said.

The name change does not affect the Inland Empire 66ers ownership. The team is still owned by Elmore Sports Group and is affiliated with the Los Angeles Angels.

San Manuel representatives similarly decline to comment before Thursday’s news conference.

Since 2002, the Inland Empire 66ers’ home stadium has carried the name Arrowhead Credit Union Park. The San Bernardino-based credit union, however, has been under federal conservatorship since June 2010.

As yet, the National Credit Union Administration has not announced when Arrowhead Credit Union will be returned to private control.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, which operates San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino near Highland, currently holds naming rights to San Manuel Amphitheater at Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore.
