It’s only February and the first serious blow has been leveled in the race to represent San Bernardino County’s Third Supervisorial District.
Here is a just-released literature from the Supervisor Neil Derry re-election campaign: Ramos Casino-Boss
The first question coming to mind?
What was James Ramos thinking?
Ramos, the current millionaire chairman of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, is seeking to oust incumbent Derry.
Today’s first salvo is a prime example as to why Ramos can outspend Derry five times over and it won’t do him any good.
Now recent reports of Ramos’ own supporters questioning his viability make even more sense.
The instant campaign hit piece only deals with Mexican Mafia infiltration of the San Manuel Reservation.
Just some of the other looming issues for Ramos include;
- Not paying taxes
- Body-guard escorts
- Conflicts of interest between the county and Tribal government
- His failed businesses
- His real opposition to proposed Barstow casino competition
- His immunity from county laws and regulations
- Being a life-long democrat in a highly conservative district.
Not to mention, that in his few recent public appearances, Ramos hasn’t displayed any cognitive grasp of county government issues.
Unless talking strictly about education and singing bird songs is the main prerequisite for sitting on the board.
Maybe at some point Ramos will figure out that trying to buy the race with his Tribe’s money is a non-starter.
Don’t get us wrong. All the recipients will gladly accept the dough and say thank you.
But that’s it.
Why? Because all the people involved can see it for what it is.
Pandering.
The politicians, who jumped to endorse Ramos, have to be wondering right about now.
At least this contest will be entertaining.

“What was James Ramos thinking?”
I believe he was thinking that his cohort Mike Ramos’s prosecution of Neil Derry would now just be working its way through the court, diverting a lot of Neil Derry’s time and money, and giving his campaign the ability to portray Mr. Derry as a felon who laundered campaign contributions.
Instead, Judge Dest saw right through the bogus prosecution, and forced a settlement.
Now Mr. Derry is responding in kind. I am not a big fan of negative campaigning, but James Ramos deserves it in this case.
Excuse me, THIS IS NOT NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING!
It’s the truth!
And the beauty of that is that James Ramos has NO come back to the TRUTH,
Unless he LIES.
A trait he is well known for!
Someone grab the popcorn, it’s going to be a filled with drama, lies, allegations, threats and all the other items needed for a blockbuster film. Only in San Bernardino County is reality weirder than films. Hmmm bet Neil Patrick Harris would play a great Derry!
Is it true that James Raamos is a boss in the mafia? He looks like one. Plus you know the mafia LOVES gambling casinos.
I just got a robocall from Chief Ramos. The caller ID said it was from TEXAS. I guess ole forked-tongue cant even spend his money here in CA> What a hypocrite.
gobaloo: What did the robocall say?
Derry should just keep sending out different post cards of the same theme, but further highlight his tax free income status and being exempt from paying county property taxes on any and all of his homes and properties on the reservation.
It is both chilling and reasonable to close your eyes and visualize Ramos running his massive gambling operation from the fifth floor of the county building. Yikes indeed. We have not the stomach for even the usual day to day corruption already on the fifth floor.
I wish we had a real citizen candidate to vote for who was both a real conservative and commited to frequent pruning of the vineyard we call Government.
I wonder if the administrator is open to considering other candidates for third district supervisor other than Neiland? I went by the Registrar of Voters yesterday and discovered that there are three other third district candidates besides “chief many chips” and “Kneel Dairy”.
-The first nick name quote comes from a high roller gambler who I know loses much of his money to the casino. The second is a misspelling of the incumbent’s name, came from non other than “The Clown” who is still on vacation.
Paul Cook is out of the race now yet there are two others in the race I have never heard of.
Ken Hunter: Get a life, you placed last against Tim Donnelly after you trashed the hell out of him. You are a piece of work. Don’t you live in Lake Arrowhead you douche bag.
Yep the bodyguard thing threw up a red flag for me.
I called a friend at LASD and asked if these rumors about the mafia running around the San Manuel was true? He said pretty much our intelligence says there is all kinds of activity running in and around the area.
Now with James close ties to Mike Ramos and Rod Hoops, it really get’s scary.
STUPID mistake Mike Ramos when you screwed with Derry. I really have to ask myself how much Mikey and Rods will get at the end of the day if James got into the 3rd District?
Keep throwing money at the cops James. I am sure someone will appreciate it.
Vote accordingly folks.
@gobaloo, Jim Brulte’s political consulting firm delivers robocalls from out of state. Brulte is a good friend of Ramos, at least that is what Ramos has been blabbing.
Here’s some interesting stats from crimemapping(dot)com:
January 2012
Total crime numbers around 2 mile radius of San Manuel: 117.
Total crime numbers within 1/2 mile of San Manuel: 22.
Total crime numbers with address at San Manuel: 18.
So, crime numbers at the 1/2 mile mark are 19%, and crime at the casino is 15.25%.
Now you can understand why the casino pays the sheriff for one deputy, and the city of San Bernardino for one police officer. This includes the one car each that is marked with paid with funds from the San Manuel Tribe.
In addition, as a public service the San Manuel runs a fire truck that responds to local fire type service to the surrounding area from the casino. It’s primary mission is to cut down on the number of fire type calls to the casino for medical aid calls as they are handled in house.
Sgt Milstar: Ever had someone piss in your yard? Or hookers and nut jobs walk through your neighborhood? Did you ever figure that SBPD under-reports everything in the area? Hell they don’t even have patrols in the area any more.
@What – yes, I do think the SBSO and SBPD do under report the crime. I am located to the west of the Casino, north of Lynwood, between Arden and Sterling. We see the foot traffic going to the casino from the area’s further west of us.
I know that a lot of 10851′s occur in the surrounding area’s. In addition, recoveries take place in the same area too. So, they steal a ride to and from the casino.
We have a neighborhood watch program in place. The city likes to say that most crime overflows to our area from the low-rent apartments. We know better! They will never say anything bad about the casino. I guess Las Vegas PD says the same thing!
The only excitment that our neighborhood has had in the 17 years we have lived here was learning that for almost 10 years we had a federal protection program safe house on our street. We all knew that there was something different with that house, due to fact that people would move in and out, and never was there a for rent, or sale sign ever placed on the property. In addition, they never moved in or out using their vehicles. It was always moving vans. One moved out one week, the next week someone else moved in!
hello, the call invited me to meet with James Ramos at somebodys house..dont recall the details since I hung up. It was the second or third call in about 3 weeks.
@Hello, No, I did not finish last against Tim Donnelly. No, I did not trash him at all and after the primary, I contributed finaially to his campaign and helped him get more votes- but I did take it to Anthony Riley pretty hard. That was a weird election, I thought Anthony Riley was the main threat and Donnelly thought I was his main threat for some reason. No, I do not live in Lake Arrowhead, I live in Redlands. No, I am not a douchebag.
No Ken, you trashed Donnelly on rimoftheworld.net over and over. You bashed him like NO OTHER CANDIDATE in that race. YOU ARE A DOUCHE BAG!
Administrator, what do you mean “conflicts of interest between the County and tribal government”, I would think the real conflict would be if Ramos became Supervisor? Then, if the proposal allowing Indian nations to participate in Joint Powers Authorities (JPA’s ) is passed, the situation of a seated supervisor being a member of that sovereign entity, would prohibit the County from unbiased consideration of such a future venture.
But then again, isn’t unethical, biased and pre-determined behavior involving the business of the County (s.a. w/ SBPEA & HACSB Dir. Redlands Super “WalMart” Mario) intermingled with the politics of even being one of the Devil of a CEO’s Board of Supervisors in the first place, or being his pre-ordained replacement such as Ramos has become, the only things that these politicos, politicians and bureaucrats even understand!
Ramos is a dirty f****** bastard who has his goons dispatched to trounce on anyone who opposes him. Red flags, anyone?
