EMILY’s List, a Washington-based group that backs women in politics, is throwing its support behind state Sen. Gloria Negrete McLeod in her Congressional bid.

McLeod, D-Chino, is taking on incumbent Rep. Joe Baca in the race for California’s newly drawn 35th Congressional District, which includes Ontario, Chino, Pomona, Montclair, parts of Fontana and Rialto and unincorporated Bloomington.

Baca, D-Rialto, technically lives in an adjacent district, but has announced his intention to run in the more heavily Democratic 35th.

“With her long history in the community and leadership in the state legislature, Gloria is the clear choice to represent this new, open California district in Congress,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “Gloria has fought hard to ensure affordable education and quality.
