Assemblyman Mike Morrell, R-Rancho Cucamonga, said he is moving to another home in Rancho Cucamonga because his current residence isn’t in the newly drawn 40th Assembly District.

Morrell plans to run for the 40th Assembly District in 2012.

Sen. Bob Dutton, who is the GOP Senate leader, has expressed interest in also running for the 40th district when he terms out of the Senate next year.

Morrell’s current 63rd Assembly District is comprised of Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, Grand Terrace, Highland, Loma Linda, Moreno Valley, Redlands, Riverside, San Bernardino, Upland and Yucaipa.

Since the redrawing of legislative districts earlier this year, the geography of the 63rd falls largely into the new 40th District, which includes San Bernardino, Highland, Redlands, Loma Linda, up through the Cajon Pass and down into Rancho Cucamonga.

Morrell, who said he has lived in Rancho Cucamonga for 32 years, said the new district lines cut his home out of the 40th.

“It goes up over and around my house,” Morrell said. “It’s bizarre. If you look at it in terms of stoplights, I live one stoplight away from the district that I represent.”
