The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, which runs a casino near Highland, spent nearly $398,000 on campaign contributions from July through September, newly released records show.

SACRAMENTO – Large gaming tribes from Inland Southern California reported more than $1.2 million in political spending from July through September, according to newly filed state reports.

The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians near Temecula spent $703,000, most of it in the form of contributions to state lawmakers. The tribe sponsored an end-of-session bill meant to block a quarry near Temecula; a Senate committee shelved the measure.
