At an election forum that was rife with questionable statements and below-the-belt jabs, Riverside Ward 7 Councilman Steve Adams and challenger John Brandriff faced off Thursday before an audience of about 70 residents.
In the event at the Hampton Inn, the candidates fielded the obligatory questions about how they would attract jobs and bring arts and culture to the ward, which encompasses the westernmost parts of the city. But there was also a hint of a referendum in audience questions that rehashed council decisions from as long as months ago and as recently as this week.
Adams, a retired police officer who is seeking a third term, touted his record of getting sidewalks built in the ward, bringing a new senior center and helping reduce the crime rate.
