UPLAND – The city’s newest City Council member will be taking her seat at the dais Monday.

Debbie Stone, a funeral director at Stone Funeral Home, will be sworn into office during a special meeting at 5 p.m. at City Hall.

“I’m so excited. I can’t wait,” Stone said. “The community is just so supportive and I really can’t wait to get in there and get my feet wet and get going on some of these issues.”

Stone was elected to the council on Aug. 30 in an all-mail special election.

She beat out 10 other candidates running for one vacancy left on the council in February when former Councilman Ray Musser was appointed mayor.

Stone will be faced with several decisions during her first meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.

“I received my packet (Thursday),” Stone said. “I’m a little overwhelmed with all the reading. I’ve got my work cut out for me.”

Stone will be able to vote with the rest of the council on several items, including the Historic Downtown Upland Specific Plan.
