Former Minuteman Assemblyman Tim Donnelly on blasted the Assembly’s passage of the DREAM Act Friday, calling the move a costly travesty.

“Assembly Bill 131, which gives taxpayer funded financial aid to illegal aliens in college, was passed off the Assembly Floor today,” Donnelly said in a statement. “This is a travesty that undermines the rule of law and costs the taxpayers anywhere from $22 to $42 million annually.”

The state recently increased tuition fees and slashed higher education budget, the assemblyman noted.

Illegal alien students who qualify, would be offered in-state-tuition. They will also be able to receive publicly funded Cal Grants.

“Despite the fact that 12 percent of Californians are out of work, the Legislature saw fit to raise your taxes and use them to fund illegals’ tuition,” said Donnelly, whose district includes Apple Valley and Hesperia. “This is a slap in the face to everyone who has stood in line to come here the right way and to every tax-paying citizen.”

He urged constituents to call the Governor and voice your opinion on the California Dream Act at: (916) 445-2841.

Assemblyman Steve Knight, whose district includes Victorville, was not immediately available for comment.
