After a year without a chief of staff, San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Josie Gonzales has appointed her former deputy chief of staff Dan Flores to fill the position.

Flores replaces Bob Page, who in August 2010 moved to the County Administrative Office to begin his new position as the county’s principle management analyst after serving as Gonzales’ chief of staff for more than six years.

“I knew that it was going to take time for my staff to adjust to Bob Page leaving,” Gonzales said. “Bob has a very intense knowledge of the workings of this county, and it was not going to be easy to replace him. It’s just a huge learning curve.”

Flores’ employment contract will include a “no gift” clause stipulating that he will not accept any gifts valued at more than $50 in a calendar year. It is modeled after a state law requiring public officials to report any gift they receive that is more than $50.

Flores is the first county employee to have such a clause written into his employment contract, which is part of an effort by Gonzales to impose new reforms in county government she proposed in May.
